For all of you PR folks trying to track down a "List of All Lists" for useful blogs about public relations, look no further. Spotlight Ideas has just published its "Top 100 Advertising, Marketing, Media & PR Blogs."
In the top 20, I wasn't surprised to find the ever popular Seth Godin's Blog and a couple of others, but the rest of them are brand new to me. ...Shows you what I know. Call me a blogging nerd, but I can't wait to dive into this pool.
Useful = Good
Below the list of the top 20, you'll find the 21-100 ranking blogs organized by category for a list of ultra high utility. The categories include PR (general), branding, social media, online marketing, copywriting, and other juicy topics.
As a blogger, planner and dreamer for The Non Prophet blog at The Community Foundation, I still feel challenged to demonstrate to nonprofit CEO's, board members and other community leaders that blogs--good ones--can be excellent tools for learning and staying on top of the latest trends. And who can blame them? Time is always of the essence. From this beautiful Top 100 package, I feel inspired to go out and create a top 10? list of nonprofit blogs to help streamline things.
It's All in A Name
From glancing this list, I was stunned by the realization that a blog's name (just like a book cover) can truly make or break the deal with gaining your attention. My favorite, name-wise? Brand Flakes for Breakfast, a blog about nothing other than good (and bad) branding. In the August 11 FPRA/CWC lunch n' learn, Roy Peter Clarke emphasized the importance of selecting unusual names in your writing. What do you know? The same also holds true for weblogs. But once you get there from an alluring name, there better be some good content. After preparing for a visit to another good blog, Damn! I Wish I Thought of That, I was disappointed to find a name stronger than content.
What's Missing? Your Favs, Please?
Here's what I want to know. What are your favs from this list? What's not on here that should be? I didn't see Nancy Schwartz's Getting Attention, which is absolutely superb. (By the way, did you know that Nancy is speaking here at the 2008 Nonprofit PR & Marketing Forum on September 10? Don't be the only one not to attend!)
